SOUTH FARMINGTON

ALL-STAR CLASSIC

TOURNAMENT RULES

SUPPLEMENTAL 8 & UNDER RULES

·         Throwing the bat is a warning to both teams on the first offense. The next offense will result in the batter being called out.

o        There will only be 1 warning per game, not per team.

·         The defensive player playing the pitcher position will be required to wear a helmet.

·         Bunting is prohibited. The batter will be called out.

·         The batter will receive 7 pitches in which to hit the ball into play or strike out. If after 4 pitches have been offered, the batter has not swung, a strike will be added to the count whether the batter swings or not. The batter can remain at bat by fouling off the 2-strike pitch. (There is no limit to the amount of foul balls hit.)

·         Ten players will occupy the field on defense, stationed as four outfielders, four infielders, one pitcher and one catcher. Outfielders must be positioned on the grass.

·         The infield fly rule does not apply.

·         If there are 2 or more runners on base, base possession will be determined by the lead runner. In other words, if the lead runner needs to return to the base behind him, all the runners behind him must return also. Trailing runners will not be allowed to continue to the open base once the ball enters the dead zone.

·         Any runner coming from third to home may continue if the runner has reached the halfway point BEFORE the ball was returned to the dead zone. The catcher may make the out via tag. If the runner turns around to return to third base and re-crosses the halfway point, the play is not dead and the runner can try to return to third.

·         Base stealing is prohibited.

·         The runner will be called out if leading off base before the ball crosses home plate during a pitch.

·         All runners must slide or avoid contact if there is a play made by the other team.  The umpire is the sole judge in this matter.  If a player does not slide and makes contact he may be declared out.

·         On throws to the catcher, the ball is DEAD when the ball crosses the line defining the territory inside the 15-foot dead ball arc.

o        No runner may advance further than the base that they already possess. If the base runner has not touched the base before the ball crosses the DEAD zone, he must go back to the preceding base.

·         If runners are on base when a batter puts the ball in play and the batter is put out at first, the runners do advance to the next base even if the first baseman may get the ball into the dead zone before the runners can gain possession of the base they are going to.

·         A team at bat will be limited to 3 outs or batting through the number of batters established before to game time by the team with the most players.

o        There is no limit to the number of batters in the last inning; the defensive team must obtain 3 outs.

·         If the pitching machine interferes with a hit ball, the play will be called dead. The result will be a single with all players advancing one base. We do not want players colliding with the pitching machine.
